This training design and development qualification includes a broad spectrum of competencies such as developing and using assessment tools, creating learning and assessment strategies and learning resources that make a real difference to the way in which key concepts are embedded.  You earn more about how to conduct an organisational training needs analysis and how LLN is an important component of planning a learner’s roadmap. You also develop abilities in specialist areas such as advanced assessment practice and evaluating the impact of training programs.

Course structure

The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development is a nationally recognised and accredited Australian training and education course. The blended option is structured as follows:

Course Duration: You will have up to 12 months to complete your training from your course start date. There are no set course dates so you can enrol and begin training straight away and complete the course as soon as you like!

Expected Study Hours: The TAE50216 course has an expected study time of 1200 hours. This equates to approximately 23 hours per week over 12 months.

Assessment Methods: The TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development is assessed via the collation of evidence in to a portfolio. This evidence includes – responding to questions, self-assessment and self-reflection, evidence of projects, observation by peers and managers, the completion of case studies and by gathering of workplace documents.

Entry Requirements: There are no formal pre-requisite units required to study this diploma training course. It is strongly recommended you have a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or one of the previous versions of the Diploma of Training and Development.

You have the following options for completing your Diploma (TAE50216) qualification:

Blended Delivery
Your journey begins with access to the MCI Solutions eCampus. There you find electronic copies of the portfolio as well as additional resources to bolster your knowledge and skills.
You then continue your TAE journey by attending the MCI Solutions 5 day face-to-face workshop. This is your opportunity to participate in engaging and interactive learning as we role model for you what great training is like. We touch on all key areas of the qualification so that you have a broad introduction to the main concepts. We complete an action plan with you so that you are aware of what further evidence you need to collect in order to meet the requirements of the qualification.
Then you have 12 months to complete the remaining assessment tasks at your own pace via the MCI Solutions eCampus. We offer you telephone and email support via our friendly coaching team should you have questions or need assistance in compiling your evidence.

Recognition of Prior Learning
We also offer the Diploma Training Design and Development (TAE50216) through self-paced recognition of learning. If you have the right level of experience, you can compile your evidence at your own pace. Recognised Prior Learning is a popular route for trainers, designers and assessors who have sufficient experience and would like recognition of their skills.

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It's helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with: an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III and government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas. Management Consultancy International (MCI Solutions) is an approved provider of NSW Smart and Skilled subsidised courses across most regions of NSW, including the greater Sydney Metro region.

    What qualifications are offered online?


    Right now, we only offer the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management as a supported online course. Our other short courses and qualifications all have face to face training elements.

    Where is the face to face training delivered?


    - Face-to-face – clients offices/third party locations that suit the size and needs of the group
    - Face to face – MCI’s incredible facilities in the Sydney CBD, above Wynyard Station.
    - Online – via our engaging eCampus that enables participants to learn in their own time and enter a world of current and business focused content.
    - Combination of the above as required so that our learners experience a blended approach to improve their performance by gaining new skills and knowledge.

    Will people who attend the training receive a formal qualification?


    MCI provides you with the choice of both accredited and non-accredited programs. We help you determine who should be trained and whether a nationally recognised certificate or a non-accredited executive skills would be a suitable choice. We can also measure changes in performance via one of the embedding apps that your participants could have access to post-training. Learning is all about measuring change – simply choose which measurement mechanism is appropriate for your needs.

    What if I want to train a few individuals?


    We provide you with the option of our pubic schedule program in Sydney for certain popular courses. Alternatively, provide some small group coaching for your team so that they receive more individualised attention from our coaches and trainers.     Do you offer government (subsidised) funding under the NSW Smart and Skilled?


    - We offer funding across NSW for full qualifications from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level qualifications
    - We also offer our corporate clients Skill Sets (up to half the qualification) for dedicated classes on client site across NSW
    - Special Funding is also available for people with a disability; NSW Social Housing residents and people from an ATSI background.
